Google Voice and Sprint Integration Problems Continue

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 04:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/06/...gration-issues/

"You may recall from yesterday that early adopters were having a variety of issues after activating (or attempting to activate) Sprint's new Google Voice integration feature. Well, a full day has passed, and we've had several calls with GV lead Vincent Paquet as well as Brian Smith, Sprint's director of product development. Both executives have said that their respective companies have been hard at work on resolutions to each of the issues we outlined Thursday night, and some customers we spoke to yesterday are now back online."

While I use and love Google Voice I'm not a Sprint customer. I think the idea though of being able to integrate Google Voice with your carrier is great and I would jump at the opportunity. Unfortunately for many who did this it hasn't been an easy ride. There have been a number of problems and it doesn't sounds like either Google or Sprint was quick to respond. Would you want to merge your Google Voice account and your normal cell service? Are you a Sprint customer who has tried this? If so, what has your experience been?

Sprint Google Voice Integration Fall Down Go Boom: Neither Sprint or Google Seem To Care

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 05:00 PM

"Have you tried Sprint's new Google Voice integration? We know a lot of our readers have -- and many of them have had problems, writing in to us to express their displeasure. We started investigating and found a hoard of complaints, and the deeper we looked, the more issues we found."

Well, that was quite the smooth start to this wonderful Sprint Google Voice integration. Smooth as a porcupine's butt. After hearing about a few complaints the folks over at Engadget decided to do some digging. Turns out the deeper they dug the worse things got. One issue after another seemed to relentlessly plague Sprint customers when they tried to enable, disable, use, or even not use the new Google Voice integration. Follow the link on over for all the gory details. I think I'll take my Google Voice on the side please.

Sprint Bringing Google Voice To All CDMA Phones

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 05:30 AM

"Sprint and Google announced today a new integrated Google VoiceTM experience that will allow Sprint customers to set their existing Sprint wireless phone number as their Google Voice number. Sprint customers will be able to take advantage of all the features and benefits of Google Voice without the hassle and fees associated with porting their number. Sprint is the first and only carrier to offer this capability, which will be available soon on all Sprint CDMA phones."

Do you know what Telephone Freedom is? It's putting the same number in all of those spots on forms marked "Home Phone", "Work Phone", "Mobile Phone", etc... That's the fun of Google Voice, and starting soon, Sprint subscribers will have an easier path to use the service. A major score for Google in getting the service adopted, for sure. But really it's a major score for Sprint users. Once you switch to Google Voice, you wonder how you ever got by without it.

Google Voice Users: Take Your Mobile Number With You!

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android News" @ 02:30 PM

http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/20...-number-to.html

"867-5309 could be one of the most iconic phone numbers of all time, but it's not the only number that a lot of us remember by heart. Many of us have a phone number that we've shared with family, friends, and contacts over the years and are reluctant to let go."

I personally know quite a few people who have been waiting for just this. Today Google announced that they have officially made number porting available to all current Google Voice users! Almost everyone I know has had the same mobile phone numbers for years. I can see why they wouldn't want to give that up. Me, personally? I don't really care. I don't use my phone for voice. :) Many people, however, live and die by their mobile phone. Many of those people have also become addicted to the amazing features that Google Voice brings to the table but just couldn't commit fully to it because they couldn't give up their old number. Well no more! Anyone else out there plan on moving their mobile number over to a Google Voice account?
