What Do You Love About Your Android Phone?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Talk" @ 07:00 AM

It's Valentine's day, and apparently, as the above would suggest, New York City loves Android (Actually this was a frontpage ad for metroPCS's contest and the LG Optimus M). I figured it's as good a day as any to ask our readers what they love about their phones. Personally I'm hooked by the flexibility of the OS - if I want to do it, build it, or access it, I can do so on my Android device. No walled gardens for this kid. Oh, and the picture above - shot on my Nexus S, of course!

So what's the hook (or hooks) for you - what do you love about your Android phone?

T-Mobile Announces The T-Mobile G-Slate With Google By LG For You

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 04:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/02/t-mo...h-google-by-lg/

"Just hours ago T-Mobile teased an image of a traditional pair of 3D glasses. Why did they do such a thing? Because tonight they are officially announcing the T-Mobile G-Slate with Google by LG that has, you guessed it plenty of 3D capability!"

Rumors have been flying since we were teased with the "T-Mobile G-Slate with Google by LG" back at CES. Many of those rumors involved the device having a 3D screen. Well, it appears that those rumors were true. The G-Slate supports an 8.9-inch 3D capable screen and even has the ability to capture 3D and HD content with its dual rear facing cameras. If that weren't enough the G-Slate is powered by a dual core Tegra 2, has 32GBs of memory built in, an HDMI out port, and will be available "this spring". If you just can't get enough of this sweet new device T-Mobile has put up a sigh-up page so you can get the latest and greatest info as it becomes available. Anyone else out there think this baby looks cooler than the Xoom?

New T-Mobile Device Release Dates Leaked

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/01/lg-g...ates-confirmed/

There you have it folks! A leaked T-Mobile memo gave this info. The Dell Streak 7 on 2/2, the Mororola ClIQ2 on 1/19, the Samsung Galaxy S 4G on 2/23, and the LG G-Slate on 3/23. It's a tough call but I think I think the most interesting device to me on this list is the LG G-Slate. Coming with Honeycomb is a good first step but I'm looking forward to see if LG has any other tricks up their sleeve. Also of note, the Dell Streak 7 will be priced at $300 after rebate.

LG is Getting Serious About Android

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 03:00 PM

"At 9.2mm thick, the Optimus Black from LG is the new world's thinnest phone, and is pretty light too, at 109g. It's also got a 4-inch NOVA screen for viewing in direct sunlight, too, and a 2MP forward-facing camera."

Up until now I haven't seen any high end or otherwise very exciting Android phones from LG. It looks like they've stepped up to the plate with this thin phone that will be upgradable to Honeycomb. Besides being very bright the NOVA display is to have low power consumption, true blacks, and pure whites. I'm not sure if this is a new form of OLED but I'm guessing it may be since I don't think it's possible for LCD to do true black. T-Mobile has also announced a very nice looking Android tablet from LG called the G-Slate. It will be the first Honeycomb powered 4G tablet on T-Mobile. I love all the Android competition and innovation going on! One thing's for sure, choosing my next Android device will not be easy! Any thoughts on devices you've seen? How about a favorite phone or tablet?

"Amazon has some amazing deals for those of you looking to pick up a new Android handset this holiday weekend."

Amazon.com has a whole slew of Android phones on sale right now. Some of the phones being offered for only $0.01 are the Samsung Captivate, LG Optimus T, and the Motorola FLIPSIDE. Keep in mind though, that to get the sale price on the phones you have to sign up for a two year agreement. But it may be worth it to get a great deal on some spectacular phones!

All I Want For Christmas Is An Android Tablet

Posted by Hooch Tan in "Android News" @ 10:30 AM

http://gizmodo.com/5654771/lgs-andr...r-than-samsungs

"LG had initially said their tablet would be available as a Christmas stocking stuffing, but it appears it's been delayed until January's CES show now. It's no big deal really, but according to Bloomberg it's due to software issues."

This is not the first time that a product has not made its initial release date, though I wonder if missing the holiday season is a good decision as those who might like this delightful tablet may not want to wait and spend their gift money on a competitor, like, say, an iPad. With other Android tablets coming out, the claim that the delay is because of Android makes me wonder if the tablet really will be ready or reliable. It almost sounds like LG is working on their own layer on top of Android to try and differentiate themselves and are having problems making it a smooth experience. Whatever the problem is, it probably is best to wait until the reviews come out over this tablet to see if the added wait is worth it.

LG Tegra 2-Powered G-Tablet Details Emerge

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 01:00 AM

"A little over a week ago I was in Berlin lamenting that many of the sweet tablets on display were not coming to the U.S. yet, maybe ever. ViewSonic's ViewPad 10 and 7 were among them, but the company had some good news for us today. We got a sneak peek at another of the company's 10-inch slates, the ViewSonic G-Tablet. This one is definitely coming out in America, hitting shelves in late October. This won't be an online-only, no touching before you buy tablet. The company plans to sell it through outlets like Costco, Sam's Club/Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, Sears, etc. The list hasn't been finalized yet, but you get the idea. This is a tablet meant for the masses. On the other hand, a $529 MSRP (lower street) for a 10-inch tablet is pretty steep when you consider the Archos 101 will start at $399. Is this high-powered slate worth the premium?"

A little on the pricey side, but if you're a fan of LG's you might want to check out this recently released information on the upcoming G-Tablet.

LG Going Dual-Core Tegra 2 in Q4 2010

Posted by Don Sorcinelli in "LG Android Phones" @ 08:30 AM

http://androidandme.com/2010/09/pho...rtphones-in-q4/

SEOUL, Sept. 7, 2010 - LG Electronics (LG) announced today that it will introduce a series of fast, powerful smartphones starting in the fourth quarter of 2010 utilizing the second generation NVIDIA® TegraTM mobile processor, Tegra 2. Tegra 2 includes the world's first dual-core CPU, which powers through complex tasks to achieve significant leaps in performance.

Accroding to the LG pres release, the new Tegra 2 chip sports two 1GHz processors and an ultra low-power GeForce GPU capable of supporting 1080p HD graphics. LG has popped up on a few mobile operator roadmaps for later in the year, so it will be interesting to see if one of these new devices is the lucky owner of the new chipset. Still to be determined, however, is battery life. I personally will be curious to see how low-power is "low-power".
