Ring, Ring: Samsung Tab Has Phone Capabilities On T-Mobile After Flashing

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 11:00 AM

http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...ad.php?t=838250

"...We now have the US TMobile Galaxy Tab making/receiving phone calls."

The T-mobile Samsung Tab in the US can make and receive phone calls if you flash it. The ability to make phone calls would make this one handy device! Would you consider flashing your Tab to have the ability to use the phone?

Leckness Launches Super Smartphone Showdown: MyTouch 4G or HD7!

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Talk" @ 04:30 AM

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2010/1...ts-my-sim-card/

"Without a doubt, the myTouch 4G would be my choice if I actually had to choose between the two. I don't have to choose though. I intend to use them both. I want to watch how Windows Phone 7 progresses and need to have a Windows Phone 7 device to be able to follow along with the progress. I am going to retire my Zune 120 and use the HD7 as my Zune...I am going to use the myTouch 4G as my daily driver."

Chris Leckness over at Gotta Be Mobile has an interesting piece up discussing the battle for his SIM card - pitting two of the hottest phones out right now against each other. In the end he finds a nice compromise in this very comprehensive piece discussing both phones. Check it out and see what you'd want.

As for me... Well, I'm thinking maybe a T-Mobile G2 and a MyTouch 4G might have to join my HTC HD7 just so I can fully compare all 3 of them!

Four Phones A Ringing: At T-Mobile For Less Than $100 This Holiday

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.androidguys.com/2010/11/...es-100-holiday/

"Starting this week, T-Mobile will be offering four Android-based handsets below the $100 price point. While they aren't necessarily the high-end super phones some of you readers might be after, they will definitely attract new Android users."

Happy Holidays, Android junkies! T-Mobile is bringing you a wonderful selection of stocking stuffers to help bring peace, joy, and little green robots to your loved ones this holiday season. For as little as $9.99 (T-Mobile Comet after rebate and contract) you can make those visions of robots dancing in your head a reality. Other options include the LG Optimus T for $29.99, the Motorola DEFY for $99.99, and the Motorola CHARM for $49.99. Anyone looking to spread a little Android cheer this holiday? Heck, at these prices it would be cheaper than that lump of coal you've had your eye on.

T-Mo Officially Offering Tethering on November 3

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010...mber-3rd-14-99/

"Listen up T-Mobile tetherers, we've just been sent in some intel that indicates America's fourth largest carrier will begin to offer/charge for tethering on November 3rd. The Tethering and Wi-Fi Sharing Add-On, which will have a monthly cost of $14.99, will allow customers to use their smartphones as a tethered modem or Wi-Fi hotspot."

You can hit up BGR for the full text of the announcement, but the details are thus: You need a phone capable of it, you're gonna pay $14.99, and it's available on both prepaid and postpaid plans. Legal tethering, as opposed to possibly flying under the radar now ;)

Defy The Odds: Motorola DEFY Available From T-Mobile November 3rd

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android News" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/10/moto...g-november-3rd/

Are you a bit of a klutz? Ever dropped your phone in the toilet? Well then, maybe the Motorola DEFY is just the phone for you. The dust proof, water resistant, and maybe a bit more drop proof phone will be available to less than graceful mobile phone users across the US on November 3rd. So put on your helmet and knee pads and get ready to head down to your local T-Mo shoppe to pick one up... then probably drop it a time or two. Anyone out there in need of a phone like this or have a family member that would benefit from a more durable phone? I know I have a few people in mind. ;)

Android 2.2 Froyo Arrives Today For T-Mobile myTouch 3G Users

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/10/t-mo...nning-tomorrow/

"It's been quite a while since we've heard anything regarding the myTouch3G and future Android updates. A lot of you owners have moved on to bigger and better things but for those of you still holding on, or holding out for something better than I hope I have your attention. Beginning tomorrow, that's right, TOMORROW T-Mobile and HTC will begin an OTA rollout of Android 2.2"

The 2.2 Froyo update will be released as a staggered roll out, starting October 13th! This is fantastic news for us "older" Android users out there! But, unfortunately, this update will only be available for the original myTouch 3G and not for the myTouch 3G 3.5mm jack, myTouch Fender Limited Edition or myTouch 3G Slide. At least it gives me hope that T-Mobile hasn't forgotten about me and my update!

T-Mobile G2 On Sale Now

Posted by Jason Lee in "HTC Android Phones" @ 04:00 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/02/...sale-right-now/

It's here, folks. Engadget received word that T-Mobile decided to go ahead and start selling the G2 3 days before the official launch date to keep up with Radio Shack. As to why Radio Shack would sell the device before T-Mobile in the first place really doesn't make sense to me but...

Anyway, if you just can't wait until the 6th give your local T-Mo store a ring and see if they might have a shiny new toy available for your to purchase. Anyone out there already have one? What do you think of the device so far?

Could It Be? Wi-Fi Calling Coming To Select Android Phones On T-Mobile

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 08:30 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/09/is-i...rm-on-t-mobile/

"The last couple of weeks have seen us discuss both on the blog and in our forums the lack of Android and UMA or Wi-Fi calling services and our desire to see it come to Magenta. We've seen our hopes rise with the introduction of a Kineto Wireless service that is capable of bringing UMA to Android as demonstrated on a Samsung Vibrant. Nothing gives me more hope than the following images that I present to you on this fine Sunday morning."

If true, this could be good news indeed. Even if it's not true UMA, the ability to handle your phone calls over Wi-Fi while at home would be wonderful. Of course, chances are still good that Wi-Fi calls will still use minutes from your calling plan but this will be amazing for anyone who lives or works in a poor coverage area and can you imagine the possibilities while roaming in foreign lands? This is all possible now with SIP servers and clients but that isn't very strait forward to setup and leave you with yet another phone number. With this solution a simple flick of a switch and you are up and running. Hey AT&T, you reading this?

Posted by Karey Westfall in "HTC Android Phones" @ 01:42 PM

http://www.iwantmyonepointsix.com/?p=347

"It's official. After more than a year, we are finally getting Android 2.1 for the Rogers HTC Magic."

So the 2.1 Android update is now available for the Rogers HTC Magic. That's wonderful for all of you Magic users out there - really, I am happy for you! But I want to know, when will I be updating my T-Mobile MyTouch? I last heard the update for the MyTouch would be out mid-summer. Looks like that will not be happening! But since the Magic and the MyTouch are very similar, hopefully we will be seeing an update soon for us MyTouch users out there! Come on T-Mobile, I want my update!

T-Mobile Begins “Kids Are Free” Promotion

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone News" @ 09:00 PM

http://press.t-mobile.com/articles/...promotion-offer

T-mobile announced that until November 2nd, 2010, families wishing to add to qualifying two-line family plans can get up to three lines added for free. This will eliminate the monthly voice and messaging charges for the three lines until 2012. Additional fees and taxes are applicable, including a $1.41 per line/month regulatory programs fee (not to mention activation fees). This sounds like a great deal for those families wanting to stay connected. Data charges are separate however, and those charges will add up if parents spring for those new Windows or Android smartphones.

First Official Pictures of the T-Mobile G2 Served Up With a Side of Conflicting Specs

Posted by Jason Lee in "HTC Android Phones" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.cellphonesignal.com/excl...es-t-mobile-g2/

"We did it again, same as we were the first ones of obtaining the official pictures of the Samsung Vibrant, now we give you the first official pictures of the T-Mobile G2."

Cell Phone Signal is at it again, this time bringing us pictures of the yet to be released G2 strait from T-Mobile own servers. You can view them for yourself right here, here and here.

They later updated the post with a screen shot of Walmart's G2 product page claiming "Android OS w/ HTC Sense" which appears to contradict the rather stock looking Android OS seen in the official images. There is also a list of specs that includes a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor which directly conflicts with T-Mobile's own report of a 800 MHz Scorpion processor which we reported here.

So, is Walmart in the know? Will the G2 in fact be a Sense device? Or are the "official" T-Mobile images correct and some at Wally World just cut and paste some filler text?

G2 or not G2, that is the question: Pricing and Specs Revealed

Posted by Jason Lee in "HTC Android Phones" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/09/and-...ile-g2-pricing/

"So we've seen images, have a great guess at a release date and a pretty decent idea as to what to expect inside the device. How about price, you guys want to know price don't you?"

Is your G1 getting a little long in the tooth? Need something to one up your rapidly aging device? How about a G2? TmoNews received this "screen shot" which clearly shows the on and off contract pricing for the highly anticipated T-mobile G2. At $499.99 off contract and a mere $199.99 for those willing to renew their vows, this device sets itself up to be very competitive in the overall smartphone market. If reasonable pricing isn't enough for you, T-mobile themselves revealed a few of the devices specs.

  • 800 MHz Scorpion processor
  • Android 2.2
  • Adobe Flash Player 10.1 ready

So what do you think? Is this Android bad boy bad enough for you dole out 200 of your hard earned smackaroos?
