New Photos of the HTC Incredible 2

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 03:30 AM

http://androidspin.com/2011/03/11/e...c-incredible-2/

"Well look what we managed to get our hands on today…pictures of the HTC Incredible 2. It is quite the device I must say. Rocking Android 2.3 with Sense, this is one smoking hot phone."

They're not great pictures but there are pictures as well as some spec's listed. I was glad to see the 4" screen on it and a higher capacity battery Than the first Droid Incredible. It has 768MB of RAM which I think is great and the second generation Snapdragon Adreno 205 GPU in there. It is also listed as having 4GB of internal storage. The first time around the Droid Incredible had a 1GB storage area that behaved like the internal storage of all other Android phones and it had an additional 8GB storage area that behaved like a MicroSDHC card. It had a MicroSDHC card slot as well. While it has less total internal storage I think the 4GB main storage will be more useful than the 1GB and 8GB were together because it would have been a pain to manage apps on such small main storage. They also went with a Super LCD instead of an AMOLED which I think is a good move because of battery life and improved visibility outside. I'm not convinced you need a 40,000/1 contrast ratio on your phone and I hate apps and themes all being made black just to save battery life. If they were able to keep the physical size of the phone about the same this is one sweet device in my book! What do you think, do you like the changes? Will this be your next Android phone?

Verizon is Pushing out a Xoom Update to Prepare for the Xoom Flash Update

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 01:00 PM

http://gizmodo.com/#!5780984/motoro...ad-for-the-18th

"Verizon Wireless is pushing out a software update for Motorola Xooms today, which will allow users to download Flash Player 10.2 from the Android Market when it becomes available next Friday, the 18th of March."

This is a good thing! While it's a little odd that an update is required just to prepare for another update it does suggest they're pretty serious about Flash coming out in the not too distant future. Did you get the update on your Xoom? If so, have you noticed any changes or fixes that squeezed their way in with it?

Surf The Galaxy Tab at LTE Speed!

Posted by Hooch Tan in "Laptop Thoughts News" @ 04:00 PM

http://androinica.com/2011/01/06/ve...-better-camera/

"With the Galaxy Tab only being on carrier’s shelves for a couple of months now, not too many expected the device to be iterated. But it looks like Verizon is getting the “most powerful” of all the Galaxy Tabs with an upgraded LTE version."

I keep hearing news about dual-core ARM processors. The RIM Playbook is supposed to feature one. The same with the iPad2. It comes as no surprise then that the single-core models would try and make the most out of what they have. A 20% faster clock speed is not too shabby. For a lot of the current apps out there though, I have to wonder just how much of a difference that makes. Web browsing is sure to be faster, but will Angry Birds be any more phenomenal with 2 more fps? Will Voice Search be more compelling if it is .2 seconds faster in recognizing your voice? Can you think of a reason the Galaxy Tab benefits from being just a bit faster?

That Big Red Fastness Get Your Data Right Through With Android And LTE

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.talkandroid.com/24243-is...ardware-at-ces/

"Oh, look... more Twitter news! According to the @VerizonWireless Twitter account, there's some pretty cool LTE stuff coming up at CES in two weeks."

The future is now, folks! No.. now. Okay, now... Well, soon anyway. This little tidbit of information from Verizon's official Twitter account implies that we might get a taste of Android drizzled with some, oh so sweet, LTE at CES. Be this a phone or a tablet we know not but with the stories I've heard about the raw speed of LTE data it will be a welcome addition to our robot army. Now if AT&T would roll out their LTE network, and I could get an unlocked "pure" Google phone with that LTE band, and if Polly the pig could learn how to fly....

Android Invasion: Motorola Unleashes Five New Killer Robots

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android News" @ 05:00 PM

http://andgeeks.com/google-android/...ith-two-882524/

"Is this the most number of Android devices announced on a single day? It's a busy day when we get five official device announcements, let alone five Android device announcements - from the same manufacturer, no less. But that's just what happened yesterday."

Holy robot wars, Batman!! Motorola sure is building quite the Android army. This past week they bolstered their forces with not one, but five new troops. AT&T has recruited three of the Motorola's finest and Verizon followed up by hiring the other two as mercenaries. This is what I like to see, more choices for more customers. Check out the article for all the specs on each soldier. Anyone out there planning on picking up one of these devices to reinforce your mobile army?

Dark And Mysterious HTC Phone Headed For Verizon

Posted by Jason Lee in "HTC Android Phones" @ 03:00 PM

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010...n-breaks-cover/

"Hi there HTC Android fans, we have another present for you! We've just been sent in a handful of images of a new, unseen HTC handset that is destined for Verizon Wireless."

Well, hello there. This beauty looks an awful lot like a G2 destined for Verizon land wouldn't you say? Boy Genius just received a few photos of this never before seen HTC device. One of the most interesting things is that this device features a SIM card slot for global roaming much like the DROID 2 World Edition. This looks like it will be a very good choice for you Verizon users out there who spend any amount of time traveling the world. Though it does appear to have been "Binged" as is the trend with recent Verizon phones but that shouldn't be too much of a problem as you can download Google search from the market on any 2.2 device. Anyone that was in the market for a DROID 2 World Edition think they might get this device instead?

Where in the Galaxy Will the Tab Go?

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 04:00 PM

http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/09...verizon-sprint/

"The latest news regarding Samsung's Galaxy Tab is no more solid than the price (which has, in another's words, been pinpointed to somewhere between $200 and $1200), but if these "people familiar with the matter" are to be believed, we'll see a multi-carrier rollout on September 16th."

The latest rumor has the Samsung Galaxy Tab making deals with three carriers - Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. And we still haven't heard a definitive price on the tablet either. The truth about the Tab's carriers and costs, are still out there, floating in the Galaxy.

New HTC Slider to Hit Verizon

Posted by Tony Rylow in "Android News" @ 06:42 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/04/...fcc-decked-out/

"Remember that big, honking red-and-black HTC slider that dwarfed an EVO 4G? It's back sporting Verizon colors just as we were told, and with a few more confirmed specifications thanks to the ever-reliable FCC."

A new HTC device is on it's way to Verizon, with an approximate size of 4.7"x2.4", this slider packs a 4-inch screen. While this behemoth is packing every feature you'll need, don't plan to put it in your pants pocket! Head over to Engadget to check a few more images.

How to manually install Froyo on your Droid Incredible

Posted by Tony Rylow in "Android News" @ 03:00 PM

http://androidandme.com/2010/08/new...oid-incredible/

"Froyo has already been rolling out to the Droid Incredible for a few days now, but if you haven't gotten your tap on the shoulder yet and you would like to go ahead and speed up the process then just follow the instructions below."

Like most Incredible users, I was beginning to lose my patience with Verizon. Over the last week, Verizon support has been patiently responding to users via Twitter, indicating they had no ETA. I was a little worried about trying this on my device, since you can't just swap your sim card to a new device should something go wrong. All concerns aside, I finally tried this yesterday. These steps are clear and easy to follow, and the update went quite smoothly.

Hidden Gem Available Soon: Samsung Gem listed in Best Buy's Buyer's Guide

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Samsung Android Phones" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/...y-buyers-guide/

"We've heard talk of the Gem before, and a new listing for the phone in Best Buy's September buyer's guide confirms the existence of Verizon's new low-end Android piece..."

Looks as if Samsung will have the Gem out (and available at Best Buy) very soon so keep your eyes open! Who knew Best Buy even had a Buyer's Guide anyways? Eh, they probably send me one, but like all the other junk mail, it quickly gets placed in the recycle pile without even a second glance.

Verizon Offers Prepaid Data for Android, Sorry Windows Mobile

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android News" @ 12:30 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/...-data-packages/

"BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless today announced it will be expanding its portfolio of prepaid offerings to include a new 3G Prepaid data package that lets customers access unlimited data on select 3G Smartphones and Multimedia phones for $30 monthly access. Multimedia phone customers also have the option of selecting a new $10 monthly data package for 25 MB per month ($.20/MB overage). These new prepaid data packages will be available in Verizon Wireless Communications Store today and online at www.verizonwireless.com beginning Sept. 28."

Verizon still has Windows Mobile devices (Although perhaps not for long), yet those don't get in on this $30 a month prepaid unlimited data offer. I'm not sure what their reason for snubbing WM here is - I can't imagine it costs them any more money to add it to the other smartphones in their line, and perhaps they just didn't mention the WM devices in the press release. Perhaps some brave soul should test it out when it becomes available!

However it looks like most, if not all, of the Android offerings do (Oh yea, those blackberries and palm devices are eligible too...). Not a bad price if you just want a non-contract data device lying around. Anyone Android-fan going to take Verizion up on their deal?
