"They've conquered smartphones and social networks. Next up for the Angry Birds? The final frontier. We've got the exclusive scoop on the next official game in Rovio's blockbuster, bird-flinging franchise: "Angry Birds Space." The game is due to smash into mobile devices on March 22."

"Rovio have been working on a little project, well actually it is a big undertaking, which will have all their Angry Birds game sync up to users devices."

Rovio has plans to release a cool new feature by summer for all you Angry Birds fans. They will allow for game synchronization across all your different platforms which means no more starting your game over if you install it on another device. And the synchronization will not only apply to Android but to all the platforms that Angry Birds is available on. So no starting over if you currently play on an iPad and switch to your super awesome Google Tab!

Angry Birds Paid Editions to Launch Exclusively in Amazon's App Store

Posted by Kevin Jackson in "Android Software" @ 09:00 AM

http://androinica.com/2011/03/angry...mazon-app-stor/

"Angry Birds Rio is coming to Android soon, but not the Android Market. The next installment of one of the best Android games will launch exclusively in the Amazon Appstore . . . . Exactly when that launch takes place is unknown. Amazon says only that the Amazon Appstore will open “very soon.” Considering that the Angry Birds Rio animated movie hits theaters April 15, I’m guessing early April would be great for a movie tie-in promotion."

This is quite a coup for the Amazon Appstore. Angry Birds is one of the most popular apps out there, with over 100 million downloads on all platforms and 30 million on Android, alone. This also hints at a possible release date for the Appstore itself, which has been a source of speculation for some weeks now.
According to an update to the linked article, it looks like we'll also be seeing paid versions of the original Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons in addition to the new Rio edition, all exclusive to the Appstore. Does this mean that Android users will finally have access to the Mighty Eagle enhancement, as well? It will be interesting to see what the conversion rate is for users switching to the paid version of the currently free, ad-support versions of the first two games.
So, two bits of exciting news here; a new Angry Birds app and the Amazon Appstore launching soon. Are you excited about this? What will a competitor to the Android Market mean for Android users? Is this proof of the fragmentation of the Android world, or proof of its openness? Will you hardcore Angry Birds users be updating to the paid version of the app? Let us know at the "Discuss" link.

UPDATE: An update on Rovio's Twitter account says that the Rio edition will be launching on March 22nd. It looks like we won't have much longer to wait for the Amazon Appstore.

Angry Birds Seasons Goes Green

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Software" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/po...lease-Date.html

"Peter Vesterbacka, the "Mighty Eagle" at Rovio just announced during their GDC panel that Angry Birds St. Patricks Day is coming soon as part of Angry Birds Seasons."

Green is coming to Angry Birds Seasons! And I don't mean the eco-friendly movement (although that would be nice), but instead that the game will be adding a St. Patrick theme to their ever changing addictive wonder just in time for the green themed holiday. So go grab yourself a green beer and get destroying!

Angry Birds Update Released, Includes New Levels and Graphics Toggle

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Software" @ 03:00 AM

http://androinica.com/2011/02/05/an...-episode-added/

"The ever popular puzzle game Angry Birds just got updated to version 1.51, and it seems to be a pretty major new release from the folks at Rovio Mobile in snowy Finland, Scandinavia."

Rovio has released an update for their super popular Angry Birds game. The 1.5 version includes 30 new levels, a toggle for lower end devices, and a wild west themed portion. Hopefully with this new update, users with less graphic intensive devices can enjoy the game as well. And watch for the Angry Birds commercial during the Super Bowl!

Calling All Crafters: Three Cute Techie Projects

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Talk" @ 04:00 PM

"My boys (husband included, but especially the boys!) are obsessed with the game Angry Birds. They like the game, but they really like to play a real life version they invented, where they chuck objects at each other. (Don't worry! They use safe projectiles for this!) I want to make their game a little more fun for them, so I am creating some Angry Birds and pigs for them to play with!"

Yes, you can have your own Angry Bird with a little sewing knowledge. The designer includes photos and patterns with simple to follow instructions, so get out those sewing machines and start building your Angry Bird army! For more awesome geek ideas, click on the more link! Read more...

Enough Money to Make Angry Birds Happy

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Software" @ 08:30 AM

http://techcrunch.com/2010/12/03/an...on-advertising/

"One of the most successful mobile games right now is Angry Birds, which has been downloaded more than 30 million times across different mobile platforms, with 12 million of those being paid downloads on iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches. But on Android, the game is free, and is supported by advertising. Angry Birds has been downloaded more than 5 million times on Android since that version launched in October. "By end of year, we project earnings of over $1 million per month with the ad-supported version of Angry Birds," says Peter Vesterbacka, the "Mighty Eagle" behind the game at Rovio Mobile."

I recall it wasn't such a short time ago that developers complained that they couldn't make any money on Android. Now about a year later, we've got Rovio with their smash hit making $1 million a month in ad venue off the free version. Not too bad!

"Sorry kids, it looks like your mastery of Angry Birds will have to wait a little longer."

As if you could tear yourself away from the game Angry Birds! Well, now you will have even more reason for sleepless nights because the creators of Angry Birds have added 45 levels and support for QVGA graphics. Update (or if you haven't already, download the game) now and call off work tomorrow because there is no way you will get any sleep tonight!

Advance Your Angry Birds In A Shady Way

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Software" @ 05:00 PM

http://androidcommunity.com/angry-b...evels-20101020/

"Angry Birds is arguably one of the most popular mobile games around. With it's cross platform release, just hitting Android this month to a download base of over 2 million it's first weekend, it has many users. Many are looking for a way past a select few levels that they are stuck on - now it's possible."

This past two days have seen myself and a certain Contributing Editor of ours (who happens to live with me) become absolutely addicted to Angry Birds. I've been playing on my Nexus One, she's got it on a slightly larger device since her MyTouch 3G is still lacking Froyo. Anyway, since we're playing more or less in sync with each other, I suppose I shouldn't let her know that I now have a way to get past the stubborn piggies. But hey, it's not like she'll see this anytime soon - she'll be playing again before Midnight I'm sure!

What's Your Favorite Game?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Software" @ 07:00 AM

It's Monday, and if you're like me, rolling out of bed this morning was just plain horrible. The weekend is gone, fun time is over, work time has begun. But perhaps it doesn't have to be all bad. Perhaps all we need is a little distraction to take some of the pain away. Perhaps we just need to share some good GAME recommendations ;)

Right now my favorite game is probably Fruit Ninja, which (if you haven't heard) is the premier way to take out your aggression against fruit while simultaneously wondering "What sort of sadistic person would toss BOMBS up while making fruit salad?!?". The Zen mode is highly addicting, and the overall gameplay is just fun. Who doesn't like squishing fruit splatter sounds? It's pretty well priced at $0.99, and is a great alternative if you're not into games revolving around upset sparrows.

So go ahead and share - what will make your week more enjoyable despite work? What's your current Favorite Android game?
