HTC One S Coming Soon to T-Mobile

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 10:30 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2012/04/htc-...99-full-retail/

"This new-ish page for the HTC One S has a terrific list of all the features available on the One S, still expected to hit store shelves a week from today on April 25th."

This may actually be my favorite phone from the One series. While it "only" has a 4.3 qHD screen (540x960) it still has the same high quality camera, 1GB of RAM, 1080p 60fps video recording, Beats Audio, and Snapdragon S4 processor as the One X. On top of that not everyone wants a huge phone with a 4.7" screen and the One S seems to get better battery life than the One X, possibly due to the One X having a larger and higher resolution display. Both the phones come with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The HTC One S should be available from T-Mobile for just under $600 on April 25th. Hopefully there will be a subsidized price option as well. Make sure you check the T-Mobile site for more information. My favorite feature of the One series is probably the Snapdragon S4 processor. It's the first 28 nm processor available in a smartphone and offers a "next generation" of speed and battery life.

Would you rather have the super-sized 4.7" 720p display or the 4.3 qHD display with better battery life?

T-Mobile Restarts Gingerbread G2x Rollout

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android News" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/12/t-mo...r-t-mobile-g2x/

"T-Mobile is kicking off another round of Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for T-Mobile G2x buyers, likely for those people that missed it the first time or purchased the phone without receiving the update."

If you haven't been getting any gingerbread love on your T-Mobile G2x, now might be the time to check for an update! T-Mobile has resumed the rollout, so now everyone can enjoy black-bars at the top of their screen, and Gingerbread goodness.

DoublePlay Says Why Not Have Two Screens?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/10/t-mo...reens-and-more/

"T-Mobile and LG have announced the LG DoublePlay, an exclusive addition to the T-Mobile lineup featuring dual-touch screens powered by T-Mobile's 4G network. The DoublePlay is the 'ultimate multitasking handset with dual touch-screens, allowing users to simultaneously email, text, surf the web, check in on various social networks and more.'"

An extremely interesting looking device coming to T-Mobile soon. LG provides this dual-screened Android device featuring a split keyboard. While it looks sorta strange, I can think of some pretty cool applications for that second screen, hopefully developers would be able to access it easily!

T-Mobile G2 Gets A Taste Of Gingerbread

Posted by Jason Lee in "HTC Android Phones" @ 05:30 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/07/t-mo...e-begins-today/

"Greeeeeeat news T-Mobile G2 owners as today is a magical day for you. That's right I'm talking about a Gingerbread OTA update that begins today and will rollout over the next few weeks to all G2 owners."

It's always good to see another Android device get its Gingerbread update. This little bump brings the T-Mobile G2 up to Android version 2.3.3 (Gingerbread). If you haven't received your over-the-air notification yet get in there and start spamming that "System Updates" button.

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide Unboxing

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android Talk" @ 01:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/07/myto...and-first-look/

"If you’ve been sitting around with nothing to do hoping that someone would post a 10 minute video of the myTouch 4G Slide then by golly you’re in luck! Our favorite unboxing pro, Aaron is back at it again with a lengthy look at the 4G Slide."

This is a good unboxing video. It doesn't go into a lot of the technical details but it does a great job of showing everything else about the phone. I didn't realize how powerful this was until I started researching it for this post - though the video made me want to find out more. As stated in the video it has a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. That has the Adreno 220 GPU which is probably the fastest GPU you can get right now. The rear camera is supposed to be the best one in any phone. It has a rear illuminated sensor like in the iPhone 4 but it's 8MP instead of 5MP in the iPhone. It has enhancements for low-light and it the phone has a mode for taking HDR photos. It can also record video at 1080p. The screen is only 3.7" which I think would be too small for me but that's more a personal preference thing. It comes with an 8GB MicroSDHC card and has MicroUSB and MicroHDMI ports built in. I'm not sure about the RAM or built in storage but the previous model had 768MB of RAM and 4GB of built in storage so it should be respectable. I would love to hear how the battery life is on it. Though it's got a fast CPU/GPU it should have a small die size since it's so new and that saves power so it could use less then the single core Snapdragon's of last year. Do you have a myTouch 4G Slide? I'd love to hear how the battery life is and how you like the phone in general. If you're looking for a new phone on T-Mobile I definitely recommend that you consider this.

MyTouch 4G Slide Coming to T-Mobile in July

Posted by Kevin Jackson in "HTC Android Phones" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/06/t-mo...touch-4g-slide/

"The myTouch 4G Slide also features a full HD 1080p camcorder with audio recording and the ability to edit your videos directly on the device. The 4G slide comes with a 3.7″ WVGA Super LCD touchscreen display, slide-out full qwerty keyboard, Android 2.3, Sense 3.0 and partners up with T-Mobile's super fast 4G network with a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor."

I must say that the MyTouch line has come along nicely from its humble beginnings. For anyone looking for a full QWERTY keyboard in an attractive package with compelling features, this is your device. The inclusion of full HD video recording with on-board editing and an 8 megapixel camera make this device worth looking at if you like to take lots of video and pictures.

HTC continues to impress me with their devices and I look forward to finding out more about this guy in the near future.

T-Mobile Claims G-Slate is much faster than the iPad 2 and Xoom

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android Talk" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/06/t-mo...ster-than-xoom/

"T-Mobile is ready to re-position the T-Mobile G-Slate as one of the best tablets on the market given its recent price drop. According to this internal document T-Mobile is claiming that they have received “legal approval” to “definitively” state that the G-Slate is more than “2x faster than the iPad2 on AT&T and Verizon, and over 3x faster than the Motorola Xoom.”"

T-Mobile is referring to carrier data speeds here. Marketing the LG Slate based on it's "4G" connectivity is a questionable move because the G-Slate can only do 14.4Mbps, not the full 42Mpbs that T-Mobile's 4G network is capable of. Also, they're comparing to a 3G Xoom which will get upgraded to LTE at some point. I think it would be a better idea to market the G-Slate based on it's price and features. To me, a $400 tablet with an 8.9" 1280x768 3D display, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of storage built in, 5MP rear cameras for 3D, a front 2MP camera, and 1080P 2D recording with Honeycomb all for $400 on contract sounds like a great deal to me!

What are your thoughts? Do any of you have the G-Slate? Does the carrier network connectivity speed make that much of a difference to you on a tablet?

8 Tech Companies Officially Come Out In Support of ProposedAT&T/T-Mobile Merger

Posted by Kevin Jackson in "Android Talk" @ 11:30 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/06/micr...-mobile-merger/

"Microsoft joined with Facebook and 6 other technology companies in a filing to the FCC last night in a statement of support for the AT&T/T-Mobile merger. The deals supporters include Yahoo, Oracle, Research in Motion and VC firms Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Sequoia Partners. Their argument is pretty much summed up by saying that the proposed deal is the best way for AT&T to expand their network capacity in order to serve a larger portion of America with high-speed wireless services."

Well, ain't this a kick in the head. Facebook, Microsoft, and others are now officially supporting the AT&T and T-Mobile merger. The first question that runs through my mind when I see news like this is "what is their motive." In other words, how is this proposed merger going to affect their bottom lines.

I, for one, am not in favor of this merger at all. I have been an AT&T customer and I am currently a T-Mobile customer and the quality of their respective customer service is worlds apart. T-Mobile consistently takes care of any issues that I have -- which are few and far between -- while the numerous issues I had with AT&T were rarely handled satisfactorily. That may have changed in the intervening years since I left them, but the bad taste is still there. If this merger goes through you can bet that I, for one, will be moving over to Sprint.

What do you think of the merger? How about the companies coming out in support of it? What do they stand to gain? Let us know in the forum.

T-Mobile Calling All Hands: June 18 Fathers Day Sale Imminent

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/05/t-mo...le-for-june-18/

"While we wait for a "Sensational" announcement later on this evening perhaps this bit of news will be exciting even for those who aren't eagerly awaiting the Sensation 4G launch. T-Mobile is set to announce another a Fathers Day sale for June 18th which will if the information being passed along comes to fruition mirror last years Fathers Day sale."

Finally ready to get Dad off that old StarTAC? Well, perhaps you should be ready to hit up T-Mobile on June 18th for some super daddy day savings. If this sale is anything like last year you should be able to get some pretty sweet deals on some nice Android phones for dear ol' dad. Then all you gotta do is teach him how to use it....

T-Mobile Tells Us What Is Wrong With The G2x And How To Fix It

Posted by Jason Lee in "LG Android Phones" @ 01:30 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/05/t-mo...ing-resolution/

"So for the "small percentage of users" T-Mobile says are having problems with the T-Mobile G2x they've put together a quick help sheet internally to try and troubleshoot the primary problems."

Having trouble with your G2x? Well, you are not alone and T-Mobile is here to help. T-Mo has released a trouble shooting document for their staff telling them now to fix several common issues that G2x users are experiencing. Unfortunately, a large number of these "known issues" are still pending as they will require an update from LG to get things rolling. Perhaps G2x users will be able to sleep better at night knowing that T-Mobile and LG are on the case. Anyone out there having problems?

Is The Samsung Galaxy S 2 Coming To T-Mobile?

Posted by Jason Lee in "Samsung Android Phones" @ 04:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/04/t-mo...ung-galaxy-s-2/

"If we were to take a straw poll as to what already announced Android phone T-Mobile customers want to see on the Magenta network, the Galaxy S 2 would undoubtedly be at the top of the list. With that in mind we might have some good news."

Really, it's not all that surprising when you think about it. I imagine we'll see some variant of the Galaxy S 2 on every major and several of the minor networks before all is said and done. It is nice to see a bit of evidence though that it might me coming sooner rather than later. The Galaxy S 2 is one amazing phone that's for sure. One I really wish I could get unlocked for AT&T. Yeah, I know. Fat chance. But who knows, maybe this phone will be uncluttered enough that I might not be afraid to actually purchase a carrier branded phone? Yeah.... I know....

Good News/Bad News for LG G2x

Posted by Kevin Jackson in "LG Android Phones" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.laptopmag.com/review/cel...idekick-4g.aspx

"T-Mobile tweets that Android 2.3 is coming to the G2x 'soon'"

If you're a G2x owner or want to be, some good news from T-Mobile; Gingerbread is coming soon. What qualifies as not waiting long isn't spelled out, but this is good news regardless. The not-so-good news is that the reports of the G2x being a quad-band phone, capable of 4G speeds on AT&T as well as T-Mobile's network, were greatly exaggerated. Sorry, quad-band seekers, this is not the 'droid you're looking for.

T-Mobile Sidekick 4G Reviewed

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/04/tmon...he-sidekick-4g/

"When I received the Sidekick 4G in the mail from T-Mobile, I wondered what T-Mobile hoped to accomplish with the Sidekick line. Several years ago, when the news originally broke that the Sidekick line was being killed off, existing users and ardent supporters of the fabled Sidekick line were understandably upset."

Interested in the Sidekick 4G from T-mobile? Check out this review and let us know what you think!

Posted by Jason Lee in "LG Android Phones" @ 07:30 PM

"Looking for a good deal on the T-Mobile G2X? Look no further than Amazon Wireless as they are offering up a special deal on the G2X for $149.99 without a rebate. Pretty good deal!"

How about a really awesome device for a really awesome price? Amazon Wireless is currently selling the brand spankin new T-Mobile G2X for $149.99 with no rebate to worry about. Who doesn't want to save $50? Also, if you just can't get enough of the G2X why not head over to PhoneDog for a little unboxing action. This is a device I would love to get a hold of for AT&T. Unlocked and with fully stock Android, mind you. Anyone out there picked one of these up yet or anyone plan on doing so?

LG Optimus 2X Reviewed for Your Pleasure and Edification

Posted by Kevin Jackson in "LG Android Phones" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.mobilityminded.com/12717...MobilityMinded)

"The LG Optimus 2X is the world's first dual-core Android-phone using the NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset, a mobile processor with both a dual-core ARM Cortex a9 CPU and a NVIDIA GeForce class GPU. LG claims the Optimus 2X is the fastest Android-phone on the market today and it will be the benchmark for other Android-phones to be released in the near future. In this review we'll take a closer look at this new Android super-phone. Is it really the best your money can buy?"

Check out the latest and greatest from T-Mobile; the LG Optimus 2X. Personally I've always like LG's feature phones, although I've never had one of their smartphones. This looks like a slick little device and worthy of your consideration of you're looking to upgrade soon. I'm still on the fence about the dual-core processor phones. I'm not sure that it's necessary and my worry is the batter life.

What phones are you excited about? Will your next device be a dual-core behemoth or are you on the fence, too? Let us know in the forums.

T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, G2X, and G-Slate Prices Have Been Set

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 07:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/04/conc...mobile-g-slate/

This is the "biggest launch day T-Mobile has likely had since early November with three “iconic” devices launching at the same time. The Sidekick 4G, T-mobile G2X and T-Mobile G-Slate will all grace retail shelves at exactly the same time..."

T-Mobile has launched three major devices as the same time. The Sidekick 4G should make original Sidekick fans happy with a very updated version made by Samsung for $100 on contract. The G2X is a new and improved version of the G2 with a Tegra 2 dual-core processor among other improvements for $200 on contract. The G-Slate is a 8.9", Tegra 2 powered, Honeycomb running, 4G tablet for $530 on contract. Do any of these devices and or prices entice you? I'm guessing people will complain about the price of the G-Slate since that requires a two year contract but what do you think? I'm glad to see some interesting new devices released and a nice Honeycomb tablet being available on T-Mobile. All the competition, even just in the Android world, is a great thing!

Today is a good day to be a T-Mobile customer. If you're in the market for a new tablet, run, don't walk, to your local T-Mobile store and pick one up. Then let us know, in the forums, what you think.

T-Mobile G-Slate Will Include Pair of 3D Glasses

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 11:30 AM

http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones...ate-with-Google

Really, where am I going to find a pair of 3D glasses to buy? I would have to steal a pair from the movie theater! But instead, T-mobile is kind enough to include a pair in the box with our new 3D enabled G-Slates once it hits the market.

Robin? Kato? NO. It's The New T-Mobile Sidekick

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android News" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/03/radi...for-april-20th/

It looks like April 20th is shaping up to be a big big day for T-Mobile fans as Radio Shack has just outed the Sidekick 4G for launch on April 20th.

I will be interested to see how this device does. I know there were quite a few rabid Sidekick fans back in the day. I wonder how those users will take up on the power of Android under the hood? Or for that matter, how many current Android users will opt for this slightly different style device/user experience? Any former Sidekick users excited about the new Sidekick 4G heading to T-Mobile?
