Cyanogenmod 9 Available for the Tegra 3 HTC One X

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/29/2...c-one-x-release

"If you love the powerful hardware, excellent screen, and beautiful design of the HTC One X, but would prefer your smartphone have a Sense-free, stock Android experience, the hacking community has answered your call."

If you have an LTE version of HTC One X, which uses a Snapdragon S4 CPU/GPU, this will not work for you. But if you want a clean, as it was meant to be, Android device, you can now have it with possibly the most high-end Android hardware available. The Cyanogenmod 9 is now available, though not officially released, for the Tegra 3 based, HTC One X. It sounds like most features are working other than the camera and WiFi hotspot.

Will you be giving Cyanogenmod 9 a try on your nice new quad-core phone? Let us know how it works for you!

CyanogenMod Disables Root by Default For New Versions

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android News" @ 08:30 AM

http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/security-and-you

"On a default CyanogenMod installation, root usage will have to be explicitly enabled by the user. This means that the user is fully aware that any application that uses root may perform actions that could compromise security, stability and data integrity. Once enabled, the process mirrors that of the current process, apps that request root will be flagged by the SuperUser.apk and the user will have to grant selective access."

In my opinion, this is a big step for CyanogenMod for two reasons. First, it helps them protect users from themselves and malicious software which may target Cyanogen users. Second, it makes CyanogenMod a 'legitimate' option for those looking to intro their friends to a custom ROM, without worrying about upping their friend's risk of problems. Good Move!

CyanogenMod Brings Gingerbread to a Phone Near You

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 07:30 AM

http://mobiputing.com/2011/02/cyano...-now-available/

"The custom ROM is based on Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread and supports a wide range of phones including the HTC Evo, MyTouch 4G, Aria, G2, and Google Nexus One."

If you're wanting Android 2.3 you may not have to wait any longer. Thanks to the CyanogenMod team you can get a custom ROM with Gingerbread now! They have just made CyanogenMod-7 Release Candidates available for a number of phones. They don't support NFC but anyone with a Nexus S, which is the only current device to supports it, comes with 2.3 anyway. It sounds all good to me! Let us know if you try it out!

CyanogenMod 6.1 Looses That Pesky RC

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Software" @ 12:00 PM

http://lifehacker.com/5707085/cyano...screen-gestures

"Android: We mentioned the CyanogenMod 6.1 Release Candidate when it first came out, but the stable version dropped today with performance improvements and feature additions for tons of Android phones."

It's heeeerre! Cyanogen has dropped the RC and released the final CyanogenMod 6.1. From the new camera features, to the notifications bar power controls, to the ability to listen to FM radio on device that couldn't before, what's not to love? Oh and there is an awesome new feature where you can unlock your phone and directly launch an app by drawing a simple shape on your lock screen! Pretty spiffy. Any of you running the RC or even those of you who have been holding out head over and get it from Cyanogen's site.

Want The Latest GMail For Your Phone?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Software" @ 05:30 PM

http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/08/u...133f3870499970b

'It hasn't been officially released yet, but an updated version of Gmail (2.2.1) is out and ready to replace the existing app on your HTC EVO 4G. Among the new features are improved performance in most areas of the app and a revamped header that makes it much easier to reply to and forward messages."

If you're dreaming of the newest GMail build that you've seen floating around, download links are apparently now leaking out via XDA Developers and other sites. The main update is the floating header that keeps reply, forward, and reply to all buttons easily findable (Although I keep scrolling to the bottom looking for the old ones...). It's also built into the latest version of CyanogenMod.
