Hello (again)

Posted by David Tucker in "Android Thoughts Site Updates" @ 04:46 PM

Welcome to Android Thoughts! I'm very excited, as I hope many of you are, to see this new site finally launch. Like quite a few other readers of the Thoughts community, I started coming here when Pocket PCs were the biggest mobile computing platform around. Unfortunately, Microsoft fell into the same trap that let them capture the market originally and let their development stagnate for years.

I actually gave up on the Windows Mobile platform almost two years ago when the G1 launched. It was a bit of a transition back then since Android was in its infancy but its one I've never regretted. The excitement I used to feel about my mobile device has returned and with the proliferation of the Android app store there is nothing missing from my Android experience. If you're still wavering about getting on board with this platform I recommend jumping in feet first!

I've been around the Thoughts community for a few years now as a contributing editor over at Zune Thoughts which is a role I'll continue in. I haven't given up on all things Microsoft. I still find the Zune experience a superior music experience to that on Android. (And trust me...I have really tried to converge but its not even close for me yet, but that's a topic for a different day!)

If you don't follow the the Zune though, hello for the first time! I'm a consultant for a large enterprise software company (I guess that's a fancy way of saying I'm a programmer) so you could say that my life revolves around technology. I love playing with it as much as I do working with it.  This has been a long enough greeting though, so on with the show! 8)

Hello, World!

Posted by Don Sorcinelli in "Android Thoughts Site Updates" @ 06:30 PM

My name is Don Sorcinelli, and I am one of Android Thoughts new Contributing Editors. If you have been around the Microsoft mobile space for any period of time, you might recognize me. I have been a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional for Mobile devices for the past 5 years, having run a user and developer group in the Boston area for nearly 10 years, and working with the Pocket PC / Smartphone / Windows Mobile / Windows Phone developer community at Microsoft local and regional events for nearly as long. By the way - the software developer in me was compelled to create the title line for this introductory post.

While a great deal of my time has been spent around the Windows Mobile/Phone platform, my professional work is more expansive with regards to mobility. I have worked for a number of years with enterprises regarding mobility strategies, device deployments and line of business application development. As a result, I have been fortunate to have been exposed to nearly all major mobile platforms from user, IT and developer perspectives. As Google continue to march forward with the Android platform, they (like many others) continue to look to woo businesses and IT organizations in addition to the consumer audience.

I look forward to trying to bring my perspective on Android to you, the reader. Hopefully, my background can sometimes shed a different light on some of the news and information coming from the Android world. And for those who may be wondering... no, my passion for the Windows Phone platform has not diminished. In fact, I am currently serving as a Technical Reviewer for one Windows Phone development book while authoring another. My passion is mobility in general, in all of it's amazing and constantly-evolving forms.

Welcome to Android Thoughts!

Welcome Thoughts Readers, to a site conceived in the back of a bus! Specifically a bus in Seattle, Washington, earlier this year. In the back of said bus was the fearless leader of Thoughts Media, Jason Dunn, and myself, and our discussion rambled over toward Android. Fittingly, a year earlier I had become interested in the platform and was carrying with me a T-Mobile G1, and both Jason and I agreed that the platform was getting bigger and better by the day - the perfect candidate for a new Thoughts Site. But while Jason found Android interesting, he hadn't really "gotten into it" and decided that if a Thoughts Site were to be launched, it would be similar to Apple Thoughts, without his editorial presence. I guess you can see who decided to step up to the challenge of running the site! So what can you expect from us? And who is Android Thoughts? Read on and find out, then post a message and let us know you're as psyched as we are! Read more...
