A 10" Dell Android Tablet is Coming

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 05:00 AM

http://blogs.forbes.com/elizabethwo...ng-this-summer/

"Today I have learned through another source at Dell that the company does have a 10-inch [Android] tablet that is expected sooner, possibly as early as June."

Forbes got some info on new Dell tablets on the way. At first it was expected they would not release an Android tablet until 2012. Now it turns out a 10" Android tablet could be released in June! Now the Dell Streak 5" and 7" only have 480x800 resolution screens so that really makes them questionable as tablets. They also only run Froyo for now. If Dell turns things around with the 10" and go with at least a 1280x800 display we could have a real contender on our hands. It will at least be running Honeycomb so that's a good start. Dell sells a lot of computers so if they start getting serious about Android I think that's a good thing for Android in general! I also wonder if Dell wouldn't be the one to really start a tablet price war. Everyone could benefit from that! What are your thoughts on a Dell Android tablet?

Get A Dell Streak 5 For $99: With Purchase Of $699 Or More

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android News" @ 08:30 PM

Now I wish I had a reason to buy a new computer. Right now Dell is running a promotion where you can get an unlocked Dell Streak 5 for only $99 when you make a PC of $699 or more. That's a pretty good deal providing you were already going to purchase a new laptop or something. I wouldn't mind having a Streak laying around for an extra phone. Any of you already thinking about buying a new PC from Dell going to take advantage of this offer?

New T-Mobile Device Release Dates Leaked

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/01/lg-g...ates-confirmed/

There you have it folks! A leaked T-Mobile memo gave this info. The Dell Streak 7 on 2/2, the Mororola ClIQ2 on 1/19, the Samsung Galaxy S 4G on 2/23, and the LG G-Slate on 3/23. It's a tough call but I think I think the most interesting device to me on this list is the LG G-Slate. Coming with Honeycomb is a good first step but I'm looking forward to see if LG has any other tricks up their sleeve. Also of note, the Dell Streak 7 will be priced at $300 after rebate.

CES 2011: Dell Streak 7 Hands-On

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Dell Streak" @ 08:00 AM

There was practically a rugby scrum immediately following the Dell press conference in the side are where the products were available for hands-on, so this is me filming someone else playing with the device. Looks pretty slick, and the performance looks great - very smooth and fluid. I've been waiting for more seven-inch slates to hit the market before making a buying decision; the Dell Streak 7 is definitely on my short list.

CES 2011: Dell's Press Conference Announcing the Dell Streak 7, Venue Phone, and Other New Hardware

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Events" @ 04:00 PM

For full-screen viewing, click click on the video above and watch it on YouTube.

This is a video shot in Las Vegas at CES 2011, the Consumer Electronics Show. This is the first time the Dell Streak 7 has been officially unveiled, along with the Dell Venue, and the un-named 10 inch tablet. Other announced hardware includes a 3D version of the XPS 17 laptop, a new Alienware Aurora desktop PC, a new XPS 8300 desktop PC, and a few other odds and ends. The press conference was almost an hour long, so I tried to include only the interesting parts. Enjoy!

CES 2011: Dell Teases 10 Inch Tablet

Click over to the YouTube version for a full screen option.

I have a longer video of the Dell CES 2011 press conference coming up, but I wanted to put this short video out first: Dell has become known for showing an early prototype device for a few seconds at each of their CES press event, and true to form, they showed off a 10 inch tablet - it looked similar in design to the current generation of Dell Streak, but the focus seemed to be on business/enterprise use, so it might not ship under that brand. Nice to see Dell is fleshing out the tablet line-up though!

How Many Leaks Does It Take To Get To The Center Of A Dell Android Tablet?

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/27/...ows-off-sd-and/

"Dell's still calling this a Mobile Internet Device, but you can call it by any of its codenames: Looking Glass, M02M, iPad eviscerator, they're all in here."

After a fairly constant trickle of news I'd say its a pretty good bet that we might hear something at CES about those Dell 7 and/or 10 inch tablets we heard about so very long ago. The first leak was strait from the Wi-Fi Alliance certifying a new Dell "Mobile Internet Device". This news was quickly followed up by the leak of the TV ad treatment. If all of that wasn't enough for you now we have the device taking a walk though the FCC.

This is shaping up to be one of the nicer Android tablets out there. I want an Android tablet but am really not sure how much I would use it. I have a netbook sitting here collecting dust already. I've been tempted by the sub $200 Android tablets but the reviews of those have appealed to my better judgement and I've held off. I guess my question is, do I need a bigger version of my phone? Do you?

Dell Goes Streaking With Rogers

Posted by Hooch Tan in "Laptop Thoughts News" @ 02:00 PM

http://en.community.dell.com/dell-b...unications.aspx

"With this rollout, Canada joins the UK, the United States, Australia and India to become the most recent country where we've officially launched it. What’s a Dell Streak? This unique pocket tablet offers some of the best on-the-go entertainment, navigation and social connectivity in a pocket friendly size."

For those of you who looking for some tablet love but do not want to go with an iPad, there are plenty of options, among which, the Streak seems to be gaining a lot of attention. The good? It offers a lot of tablet-like goodness. The bad? It is an interesting size which might not suit a lot of people. It is also curiously sticking with Android 1.6. The worst? It is only available through Rogers in Canada. I will not object to Rogers as a provider, though like any provider in Canada, I have heard numerous complaints, but it would have been nice to see it available through other providers as well. Still, with the holidays soon approaching, I expect that I will be seeing quite a few of these around town. Of course, one does not really need an excuse to get a new toy, right?
