T-Mobile Claims G-Slate is much faster than the iPad 2 and Xoom

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android Talk" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/06/t-mo...ster-than-xoom/

"T-Mobile is ready to re-position the T-Mobile G-Slate as one of the best tablets on the market given its recent price drop. According to this internal document T-Mobile is claiming that they have received “legal approval” to “definitively” state that the G-Slate is more than “2x faster than the iPad2 on AT&T and Verizon, and over 3x faster than the Motorola Xoom.”"

T-Mobile is referring to carrier data speeds here. Marketing the LG Slate based on it's "4G" connectivity is a questionable move because the G-Slate can only do 14.4Mbps, not the full 42Mpbs that T-Mobile's 4G network is capable of. Also, they're comparing to a 3G Xoom which will get upgraded to LTE at some point. I think it would be a better idea to market the G-Slate based on it's price and features. To me, a $400 tablet with an 8.9" 1280x768 3D display, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of storage built in, 5MP rear cameras for 3D, a front 2MP camera, and 1080P 2D recording with Honeycomb all for $400 on contract sounds like a great deal to me!

What are your thoughts? Do any of you have the G-Slate? Does the carrier network connectivity speed make that much of a difference to you on a tablet?

Which Honeycomb Tablet is the Best?

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 07:30 AM

http://blog.laptopmag.com/whats-the...-tablet?slide=1

"The Android Tablet Battalion has finally arrived. In the span of just three days, the number of Honeycomb tablets has ballooned from one to four. In addition to competitive pricing (read: cheaper than the iPad 2), they provide a whole host of special features including full SD card readers, 3D, full USB, stereo speakers, full HDMI, HSPA+, and even a full keyboard."

The Android tablet onslaught has begun. There are now four Honeycomb running tablets available. The Xoom, G-Slate, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, and the Acer Iconia Tab A500. They're offering some new features like 3D video recording and playback as well as an attachable keyboard with an extra battery. Besides new features, there are lower prices, going as low as $400 for the Transformer. Are any of these tablet's just what you've been waiting for? Follow the "Read" link below and see which one and what features are your favorites then let us know! Do you think the new low prices and features will affect sales of the iPad 2? Check out this link for some thoughts on that.

T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, G2X, and G-Slate Prices Have Been Set

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 07:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/04/conc...mobile-g-slate/

This is the "biggest launch day T-Mobile has likely had since early November with three “iconic” devices launching at the same time. The Sidekick 4G, T-mobile G2X and T-Mobile G-Slate will all grace retail shelves at exactly the same time..."

T-Mobile has launched three major devices as the same time. The Sidekick 4G should make original Sidekick fans happy with a very updated version made by Samsung for $100 on contract. The G2X is a new and improved version of the G2 with a Tegra 2 dual-core processor among other improvements for $200 on contract. The G-Slate is a 8.9", Tegra 2 powered, Honeycomb running, 4G tablet for $530 on contract. Do any of these devices and or prices entice you? I'm guessing people will complain about the price of the G-Slate since that requires a two year contract but what do you think? I'm glad to see some interesting new devices released and a nice Honeycomb tablet being available on T-Mobile. All the competition, even just in the Android world, is a great thing!

"There you have it, G-Slate officially coming April 20th and as such, is the third "iconic" device to launch that day. Looks like April 20th is going to be a good day indeed for the Magenta faithful!"

Today is a good day to be a T-Mobile customer. If you're in the market for a new tablet, run, don't walk, to your local T-Mobile store and pick one up. Then let us know, in the forums, what you think.

T-Mobile G-Slate Will Include Pair of 3D Glasses

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 11:30 AM

Really, where am I going to find a pair of 3D glasses to buy? I would have to steal a pair from the movie theater! But instead, T-mobile is kind enough to include a pair in the box with our new 3D enabled G-Slates once it hits the market.

LG Optimus Pad 3D Video In Action

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 11:30 PM

http://androinica.com/2011/02/14/lg...video-hands-on/

"Does the world really need 3D mobile devices? No, but companies are going to keep putting them out. That's why the LG Optimus Pad, announced at MWC 2011, garnered so much attention today."

3D video recording on a tablet/phone may just be the ultimate in "Why? Because I can". Personally I cannot think of a single situation were recording video in the old school red/green 3D would provide any real benefit. Would I do it if I could? Probably. Would I go out of my way to buy a device capable of it? Probably not. The capability of recording true 3D video on a mobile device is very cool for sure but it may be just a bit too gimmicky to really sell a device. What about you? Any of you guys who can't wait to get some 3D on your next mobile device? Click through for a video of the device in action.

T-Mobile Announces The T-Mobile G-Slate With Google By LG For You

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 04:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/02/t-mo...h-google-by-lg/

"Just hours ago T-Mobile teased an image of a traditional pair of 3D glasses. Why did they do such a thing? Because tonight they are officially announcing the T-Mobile G-Slate with Google by LG that has, you guessed it plenty of 3D capability!"

Rumors have been flying since we were teased with the "T-Mobile G-Slate with Google by LG" back at CES. Many of those rumors involved the device having a 3D screen. Well, it appears that those rumors were true. The G-Slate supports an 8.9-inch 3D capable screen and even has the ability to capture 3D and HD content with its dual rear facing cameras. If that weren't enough the G-Slate is powered by a dual core Tegra 2, has 32GBs of memory built in, an HDMI out port, and will be available "this spring". If you just can't get enough of this sweet new device T-Mobile has put up a sigh-up page so you can get the latest and greatest info as it becomes available. Anyone else out there think this baby looks cooler than the Xoom?
