Google Flight Search is Now Smartphone Optimized

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android Software" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/22/...or-android-ios/

"All the key flight-finding features of the desktop version are present: search, discover by location, filter by price, airline and calendar view, and have been optimized for the small screen."

While it isn't a native app it looks like Google did a great job of bringing their web based Flight Search to the smartphone. It's very fast and easy to use, that's for sure. In about four taps I was ready to book a round trip flight. I don't fly often but next time I do I'll definitely give this a try. Just go to www.google.com/flights with your smartphone web browser to try it.

What's your favorite flight planning app? Would you consider using Google Flight Search instead or what features does Flight Search lack?

Web Version of Google Maps for iOS and Android Now Available

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.electronista.com/article...id.web.version/

"Google wrapped up on Friday with a long-requested version of Google Maps for smartphones. Both Android and iOS users can both track their individual location with the usual Google Maps layers, such as satellite maps and traffic, as well as get directions. Place pages have their own optimizations and tie in properly with the map."

This was released Friday and works anywhere Google Maps exists. On top of that, the one big advantage is the continual updating you get from web versions over apps, which require updates from either Apple or Google. Sign-on to Google and you get access to all your favorite locations, saved maps and landmarks.

Google Takes Printing to the Cloud

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 09:00 AM

"Let’s say you need to print an important email attachment on your way to work so that it’s waiting for you when you walk in the door. With Gmail for mobile and Google Cloud Print — a service that allows printing from any app on any device, OS or browser without the need to install drivers — you can."

Google Cloud Print lets you print from Gmail in any current web browser, desktop or mobile. You need a Windows PC connected to the printer your want to print to right now but they're going to add support for Mac and Linux machines as well. Just go into Gmail from a browser and you will see a "Print" option in it's drop down menu near the top right. Besides just printing your messages it supports the printing of some attachments like .doc and .pdf files. Give it a try! Does this solve a specific printing need for you?
