Androinica Reviews the Moto Droid Razr

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 11:30 AM

http://androinica.com/2011/11/motor...id-razr-review/

"With the Droid Razr, Motorola attempts to marry the game-changing attributes of its two most important brands of the modern smartphone era. The phone is once again sleek and sharp like the latter half of its name would imply, but bold and limit-pushing like the former. So how successful is Motorola at merging form and function in its latest phone?"

If you're not familiar with the Droid Razr it's a very thin Android phone that packs a powerful 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM along with 16GB of storage and it comes with an additional 16GB card. It also has a 540x960 4.3" display. This review covers a little bit of everything about it. One thing that's noteworthy is apparently the Droid Razr has better battery life than any other LTE Android phone. The reviewer also said the call quality was "really good", better than he is used to, and he doesn't mind the UI that Moto put on this thing adding that it has some nice features - much improved from the old Blur that so many people hated. On the downside he didn't love the Super AMOLED Advanced qHD display.

Read the full review for all the details. Will the Droid Razr be your next phone?

Razr Returns!

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 02:30 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/18/...-razr-hands-on/

"To everyone who rocked a Motorola RAZR in the '00s, it's time to get excited again."

Engadget has all the details you need on this one. Motorola is resurrecting the Razr name for a brand new, really thin, Droid branded device. Not a bad option for the Verizon bound!

Engadget Reviews the Droid Bionic

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/08/...-bionic-review/

"It's been said that absence makes a heart grow fonder, so it was with very willing and eager hands this week that we received the Droid Bionic, Motorola's latest high-octane, robot-themed assault on Verizon Wireless subscribers."

With a dual-core 1GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, about 23GB of usable storage space, a 960x540 4.3" screen, 1700mHA battery, LTE 4G, and 1080p video recording the Droid Bionic is a very respectable device. Engadget has a nice review with lots of photos and video that goes into detail about things like performance, battery life, and accessories - including a WebTop laptop dock thing like the Atrix.

I generally like what Motorola does with their hardware. In this case I'm not sure about the CPU/GPU choice. Also I think the VGA front facing camera was a bad choice. I would expect a 2MP front facing camera on a high-end phone. I've seen the PenTile screen on the Droid X2 and I like that. Check out the review and let us know what you think. Is this the Droid you've been waiting for? If you bought one I'd love to know how you like it so far!

iOS Versus Droid

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 02:00 AM

http://blog.hunch.com/?p=51781

"The topic of smartphone operating systems can be as divisive as politics or the Mac vs. PC debate. (Just add snide comments about dropped calls.) We delved into our Teach Hunch About You (THAY) questions to figure out what we can learn about Android vs. iPhone users, and our friends at Column Five Media performed some of their infographic magic on the resulting data."

I know, I know, the graphic says Droid vs. iOS, but I am kind of biased the other way, which makes sense since iOS owners are 39% more likely to be high maintenance. At least according to this latest Teach Hunch survey. I prefer to think of it as leading the way, which also makes sense since iOS owners are 27% more likely to lead. I found this an interesting read, entertaining if nothing else.

Droid X Gingerbread Update Kills Root

Posted by Kevin Jackson in "Android Talk" @ 02:00 PM

http://androinica.com/2011/04/droid...out-kills-root/

"This story is one of those strange things that probably sounds worse than it is. The report is that the official OTA Gingerbread update for the Droid X is now rolling out, but it comes with a caveat that it will kill root access if your phone is rooted."

Good News: Gingerbread is now available for the Droid X!

Bad News: It kills root access.

Another cautionary tale; if you root your phone, it could be taken away at any time by the manufacturer in an update. The better news is that there is always a developer community trying to re-root phones that lose the ability and they do love a challenge. Otherwise the update looks to be pretty decent, with generally good results. If you're rooted and want to keep it, though, you may want to wait until the community comes up with another exploit.

More Droid Incredible 2 Details Emerge

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.androidcentral.com/veriz...ne-dual-cameras

"One of the worst-kept secrets of this spring is that the Droid Incredible 2 is coming to Verizon. Maybe you've seen the leaked pictures, or a leaked roadmap -- but it's definitely coming."

More information about the Droid Incredible 2 is coming to light. It now appears as if the Incredible 2 will be a world phone with GSM and CDMA and it will have front and rear facing cameras. None of the details are confirmed as of yet because Verizon still has to make their official announcement, but multiple cameras and world usage are great features to have in a phone!
