ViewSonic's Newest Tablet: An Unholy Alliance of Android and Windows 7

Posted by Kevin Jackson in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 03:00 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/08/...ad-10-tablet-n/

"If you'll recall, this one's rocking a 10.1-inch touchpanel (1024 x 600), 1.66GHz Atom CPU, 2GB of RAM, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera and a version of Android we forgot about in 1994."

Not much to say about this one. You can get it with Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional with 16 or 32 gigabytes of storage. The real kicker is the 1.6 installation of Android. Why? I mean, everyone is two or three iterations on, with Honeycomb being the latest hot thing for tablets. Honestly, unless there is a good technical reason for going with Donut over, at the very least, Froyo, this is just plain dumb. Viewsonic is shooting themselves in the foot here, and I would be surprised if this device gained any traction at all.

Am I way out in left field on this one, or do you agree that this device is doomed to fail?

Dual-Boot Windows Phone and Android on the HD2

For many, the HTC HD2 represents the pinnacle of Windows Mobile devices. The amazing hardware (for its time) has allowed hackers to boot Android, Linux, and now Windows Phone 7. The developers haven't stopped there, and have most recently discovered a way to partition an SD card in such a way as to dual-boot both Android and Windows Phone 7. Hit the link for a video tutorial on the process of setting up the environment. As always, do so at your own risk.

Dual-boot Tablet Runs Windows 7 & Android 1.6: The Best of Both Worlds?

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 11:00 AM

"After warning us last week of their impending dual-booting tablet, ViewSonic has now spilled the beans on the ViewPad 100's specs. I don't think anyone will be impressed by the Android 1.6 flavor, even if Windows 7's also there too."

I'm honestly not sure what to think of this device. Spec wise it looks to be a very nice "netbook-like" tablet, something I could see myself using while on the go. The part that I don't really get is the fact that you can choose to either boot into Windows 7 or Android 1.6. Beyond the fact that it is Android 1.6 and not 2.2, why would I ever boot a Windows tablet into Android? What do you guys think? Do you see any benefit in being able to choose to boot into Windows or Android on a single device?
