FCC Tells AT&T And Verizon To Play Nice: Mandatory Data Roaming

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 05:00 PM

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...ta-traffic.html

"AT&T Inc. (T) and Verizon Wireless must let smaller competitors use their networks for mobile Internet service under rules approved today by a divided Federal Communications Commission."

I'm sure there are some guys in suit wearing blue and red ties gritting there teeth right about now. In a move that can only be good for regional carriers and irritating for the big guys, the FCC has mandated that AT&T and Verizon must negotiate fair data roaming agreements with smaller regional carriers much as they are required to do with voice roaming now. I'm not really sure how much of an impact this will make on the on the big guns but it has certainly changed the ball game. Any of you out there rockin an Android on Podunk Wireless excited about this move?

T-Mobile: Now In 3D?

Posted by Jason Lee in "LG Android Phones" @ 01:30 PM

http://www.unwiredview.com/2011/03/...th-t-mobile-3g/

"The FCC has just approved a phone called LG P920, which is none other than the LG Optimus 3D. The surprising aspect about this is that the Optimus 3D which got the Commission's approval comes with support for T-Mobile's AWS (1700 MHz) network."

Well, look what just bounced through the FCC... It's that ever present LG Optimus 3D sporting AWS (1700MHz) which is exactly what one would need to cruse along on the T-Mobile network 3G/4G network. Besides the 3D (which I went over my distaste for earlier) the Optimus 3D seems like one powerful device with its fancy shmancy dual core/dual channel CPU. Assuming T-Mo picks this up that will leave Verizon as the only US carrier without a pretty new 3D phone. Any of you T-Mobile short-timers plan on picking one of these up when it drops?

Acer Liquid Metal Now With AT&T 3G: Not So Liquid, Oh So Metal

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android News" @ 08:30 AM

Well, look what just strolled through the FCC. It's that all aluminium, all Android Acer Liquid Metal S120. Sporting a 3.6 inch 800x480 screen, an 800MHz Qualcomm CPU and... wait a minute, what is that? Why yes, it also includes the proper 3G bands for use on AT&T's network. No clue if this means we will see this, oh so sexy, device in AT&T stores or if we will be lucky enough to be able to purchase it strait through Acer and avoid all that carrier crapware. Either way, this is one nice looking device. I'll be very happy to see it arrive state-side. Does the Liquid Metal tickle anyone's fancy?
