Non-Verizon Skype for Android Finally Gets 3G Calling in the US

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 07:00 PM

http://www.slashgear.com/skype-for-...calls-20147225/

"The new app, v1.0.0.983, brings the same 3G calling functionality as international users have been enjoying to the US, rather than limiting it to the Verizon version of the Skype app as has been the case until now."

Skype got in some hot water a few weeks ago for a security issue with their Android App. It made it easy for malicious apps to steal your private information. Who knows if this move is to help make up for that or if the timing is just a coincidence but 3G calling is what every non-Verizon Skype for Android user has been wanting since it's release and that feature is now available in the latest version. It still offers WiFi support as well but many should be happy to have 3G available as an option now. Do you use the 3G calling in Skype? How does it work for you?

Acer Liquid Metal Now With AT&T 3G: Not So Liquid, Oh So Metal

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android News" @ 08:30 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/25/...n-atandt-bands/

Well, look what just strolled through the FCC. It's that all aluminium, all Android Acer Liquid Metal S120. Sporting a 3.6 inch 800x480 screen, an 800MHz Qualcomm CPU and... wait a minute, what is that? Why yes, it also includes the proper 3G bands for use on AT&T's network. No clue if this means we will see this, oh so sexy, device in AT&T stores or if we will be lucky enough to be able to purchase it strait through Acer and avoid all that carrier crapware. Either way, this is one nice looking device. I'll be very happy to see it arrive state-side. Does the Liquid Metal tickle anyone's fancy?

Android 2.2 Froyo Arrives Today For T-Mobile myTouch 3G Users

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/10/t-mo...nning-tomorrow/

"It's been quite a while since we've heard anything regarding the myTouch3G and future Android updates. A lot of you owners have moved on to bigger and better things but for those of you still holding on, or holding out for something better than I hope I have your attention. Beginning tomorrow, that's right, TOMORROW T-Mobile and HTC will begin an OTA rollout of Android 2.2"

The 2.2 Froyo update will be released as a staggered roll out, starting October 13th! This is fantastic news for us "older" Android users out there! But, unfortunately, this update will only be available for the original myTouch 3G and not for the myTouch 3G 3.5mm jack, myTouch Fender Limited Edition or myTouch 3G Slide. At least it gives me hope that T-Mobile hasn't forgotten about me and my update!

Samsung Galaxy Tab Coming to Sprint This Fall

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android Slates/Tablets & Accessories" @ 05:00 PM

http://newsroom.sprint.com/article_...article_id=1636

"Sprint (NYSE: S) and Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile), the No. 1 mobile phone provider in the United States1, today announced the upcoming arrival of Samsung Galaxy TabTM to the Sprint 3G network this fall. This new tablet combines the popular Android platform and award-winning data features of the Samsung Galaxy S lineup of mobile devices with the reliability and value of Sprint and access to the Sprint 3G network. Samsung Galaxy Tab weighs less than a pound and features a brilliant 7-inch Enhanced TFT touchscreen display, Android 2.2, a 1GHz Hummingbird Application processor, supporting 3D graphics and smooth Web browsing, as well as dual cameras for video chat on-the-go. It offers two fast and easy ways to enter text onto the tablet - a virtual keyboard and SWYPE technology, which allows users to input text faster and more intuitively with one continuous finger motion across the virtual keyboard."

Well folks, looks like it's official for at least one carrier - Sprint will be carrying the Samsung Galaxy Tab this fall. No word on a firm release date or pricing, and sadly it'll only be 3G, not taking advantage of Sprint's 4G technology. 3 MP camera on the back, 1.5 MP on the front (3?!? Why can't we get at least 5?)
