Securely Share Your Wireless Network With Wifi Joiner

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Software" @ 03:00 PM

http://lifehacker.com/5813995/wifi-...-with-a-qr-code

"Want a simpler way to allow others to join your Wi-Fi network, without having to give out your WPA code? Wifi Joiner creates a QR code for your network that the other user can scan to easily connect to your wireless network."

This is a pretty handy little app for those who need to share their wireless network with others yet don't want to just hand out the password. Wifi Joiner will allow you to generate a QR code that can be scanned by another user running Wifi Joiner to quickly and easily configure your wireless network on their device. Your wireless password can even be encrypted so it is not just stored as plain text in the QR code for all to read. A pretty neat idea over all. Something like this should be a universal standard. Just beep the WiFi sign and Starbucks to connect securely.

Verizon Expands LTE Wireless Network

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 11:16 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/160...l#lsrc.rss_main

"Verizon Wireless announced 19 more cities that will get its faster LTE wireless network service starting Thursday, bringing the total to 74 metropolitan areas."

19 new locations across the country, including Sacramento, CA, Hartford, Conn, Boise, ID and many more. You can get the full list here in case you are wondering if your city made the cut. This just adds fuel to the competitive fires so to speak as AT&T is going to launch their own LTE 4G network this summer in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas Houston and San Antonio, while Sprint is rumored to be in the planning process to add LTE to it's 4G network. This can't come soon enough for me, with data speeds up to 10 Mbps it certainly will leave 3G in the dust.

Cartoon Network Video App - To Download Or Not To Download?

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Software" @ 03:30 AM

"Get Cartoon Network any time with the Cartoon Network Video app for Android."

Cartoon Network programming has arrived to your phone with the Cartoon Network Video app. Now you can watch your favorite shows on the go via streaming video! But be aware, reports indicate that video quality lacks and most shows are kid friendly. And it's also been reported that even though it should, the app won't run on certain phones. But on the upside, it allows you to browse the CN tv schedule and Adult Swim shows may be available soon via a separate app. In the meantime or unless you are a die-hard Cartoon Network fan, it might be a good idea to skip this app until they get the kinks worked out!

10 Inch HTC "Puccini" Tablet on the Way?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts News" @ 10:00 AM

That itty-bitty picture above is supposedly an image of the forthcoming 10 inch HTC tablet, code-named "Puccini". The rumour is that this tablet will be one of the first to work on AT&T's forthcoming LTE network, making it a true 4G device. Nothing is known of the specs, though one can safely assume it's based on Android Honeycomb 3.x and will very likely feature the same HTC Sense interface we saw on the Flyer. My hope? That it gets into the 10 hour battery life range that has become the norm for tablets of this size - the four hour battery life of the HTC Flyer kept me from even considering that tablet.

Unlock With WiFi Automatically Unlocks Your Phone When On Preset Networks

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Software" @ 12:00 PM

"Android: Free app Unlock With WiFi toggles your Android device's security lock based on the Wi-Fi network you're connected to."

Locking and unlocking your phone can be a pain, but is often necessary to prevent unwanted usage, protect your personal info or avoid accidental calls. But now, Unlock With WiFi makes it a little less painful. The app keeps your phone unlocked when on networks that you specify. Great app to have if you don't see your phone getting tampered with while at home or at a friend's house. The app requires Android 2.1 or high and is currently free, so snap it up while you can!
