Time Warner Cable Releases New Apps

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android Software" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/17/...twc-app-and-tw/

"We're still waiting for Time Warner to bring its live TV streaming to Android, but the platform is enjoying some exclusive support today with two new apps."

Don't get too excited if streaming video is what you're looking for but hey, account management and a schedule tool is better than nothing. It does sound like a streaming should be coming soon but at least they put out something to tide you over.

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Software" @ 03:30 AM

"Get Cartoon Network any time with the Cartoon Network Video app for Android."

Cartoon Network programming has arrived to your phone with the Cartoon Network Video app. Now you can watch your favorite shows on the go via streaming video! But be aware, reports indicate that video quality lacks and most shows are kid friendly. And it's also been reported that even though it should, the app won't run on certain phones. But on the upside, it allows you to browse the CN tv schedule and Adult Swim shows may be available soon via a separate app. In the meantime or unless you are a die-hard Cartoon Network fan, it might be a good idea to skip this app until they get the kinks worked out!

"Hulu, Netflix Instant Queue*, Comedy Central, MLB.tv*, CNN, CBS, ESPN, ESPN3, TV.com, SpikeTV, The Ultimate Fighter, Amazon VOD, TBS, BET, Adult Swim, Oprah Winfrey Network, Nick, PBS, PBS Kids, MTV, Vevo, and many more. Now you can watch the online content from all of these channels on your Android Phone."

The PlayOn application lets Android 2.2 and up users watch your favorite channels via your mobile device. It includes Netlix, Hulu, Adult Swim, TV.com and other popular channels. The app allows for connection by 3G or Wi-Fi as long as you have the PlayOn Media Server running on your PC. The app is free to download, but there is a subscription fee for the Media Server plus certain channels require an additional subscription fee. If unsure whether you want to pay for the server or not, there is a 14 day free trial to help you make up your mind. But for some Android users unable to support channels on their own, it may be well worth the fee!

CES 2011: Panasonic Viera Android Tablets

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Other Slates & Tablets" @ 09:00 AM

It seems like you couldn't go ten feet at CES without running into someone showing off an Android-based tablet - oh Microsoft, how could you not see this coming - but sometimes the popped up in surprising places. One such place was the Panasonic booth. Amidst giant 3D TVs, HD video cameras, and technology galore, were a series of three tablets: 10 inch, 7 inch, and 4 inch. Each of these tablets were prototypes; Panasonic isn't shipping these yet. They link up to Panasonic's on-board Viera software to do neat things like steam any video from the tablet to the TV. This type of integration is slick - check out out the video.
