New Skype for Android Sends Photos and Video

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android Software" @ 11:00 AM

"Just in time to really annoy your family and friends with holiday greetings, Skype for Android has updated to version 2.6, bringing with it support for sharing photos, videos and other files with your contacts."

Just in case you didn't have enough options to share a picture of your Christmas tree with mom and dad you can now use Skype for this and more. The latest release of Skype for Android lets you send photos, videos, and even other files to your contacts. They also have improved video quality for Tegra 2 based devices and added support for more devices like the Droid RAZR. Do you use Skype often? If so, what do you think of the new version?

Non-Verizon Skype for Android Finally Gets 3G Calling in the US

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 07:00 PM

"The new app, v1.0.0.983, brings the same 3G calling functionality as international users have been enjoying to the US, rather than limiting it to the Verizon version of the Skype app as has been the case until now."

Skype got in some hot water a few weeks ago for a security issue with their Android App. It made it easy for malicious apps to steal your private information. Who knows if this move is to help make up for that or if the timing is just a coincidence but 3G calling is what every non-Verizon Skype for Android user has been wanting since it's release and that feature is now available in the latest version. It still offers WiFi support as well but many should be happy to have 3G available as an option now. Do you use the 3G calling in Skype? How does it work for you?

Skype Now Available For Non-Verizon Android Phones

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Software" @ 07:00 PM

"It seems unfathomable that Skype didn't have an app for Android until now*, but it's true. Phones running Android 2.1 or 2.2 can download the free app now, for free Skype-to-Skype calls, IM and more."

Good news! Android users not on the Verizon network can finally get their Skype on... kind of. Apparently everyone in the world can make calls and send texts over WiFi or 3G, except for anyone who just happens to live in the United States. Those of us living in the states must fire up WiFi to make a voice call over Skype. That, along with the hefty 13.84MB install on my Nexus One pretty much means this is getting uninstalled very soon. Any Skype users out there glad to finally be able to make calls from your Android phone?
